The Peace Silver Dollar was the first coin in U.S. Mint history to commemorate peace after the World War I. First introduced in 1921, immediately after the Morgan Silver Dollar was discontinued, the Peace Silver Dollar enjoyed a very short issuance, minted from 1921-1928, then again from 1934-1935. The Peace Silver Dollar is one of the only coins in U.S. Mint history to be issued without Congressional sanction. The concept of issuing a commemorative coin to celebrate peace after the end of WWI was that of Farran Zerbe, historian of the American Numismatic Association. The Federal Commission of Fine Arts approved his concept and a design contest was held to select the image that would forever adorn the coin. The final design was that of Anthony De Francisci, a prominent sculptor and medalist.

With the last coin minted over 80 years ago, the Peace Silver Dollar continues to be in high demand by investors and collectors throughout the world.
